Important Information for your Second Trimester

Reasons to go to the Hospital/Labor & Delivery Triage

  • Vaginal Bleeding
  • Symptoms of high blood pressure (Toxemia)
    • Sudden swelling in face or hands
    • Blurred vision or any visual impairment
    • Upper abdominal pain, mostly localized to right side
  • Decreased or absent fetal movements
    • Babies usually have a pattern of fetal movements but if you feel no movements at all, or if these are decreased considerably, report to the hospital OB Triage at once
  • Preterm Labor
    • Uterine contractions at a rate of four or more per hour, especially if these do not subside after taking an hour or so of rest and being well hydrated
    • Lower backache
    • Lower pelvic pressure
  • Premature Rupture of Membranes
    • If you are leaking any liquid from the vagina please do not try to diagnose it yourself – report to the hospital OB Triage. A quick exam will help to determine whether the “bag of water” is intact or broken
