Reasons to go to the Hospital/Labor & Delivery Triage
Vaginal Bleeding
Symptoms of high blood pressure (Toxemia)
Sudden swelling in face or hands
Blurred vision or any visual impairment
Upper abdominal pain, mostly localized to right side
Decreased or absent fetal movements
Babies usually have a pattern of fetal movements but if you feel no movements at
all, or if these are decreased considerably, report to the hospital OB Triage at once
Preterm Labor
Uterine contractions at a rate of four or more per hour, especially if these do not
subside after taking an hour or so of rest and being well hydrated
Lower backache
Lower pelvic pressure
Premature Rupture of Membranes
If you are leaking any liquid from the vagina please do not try to diagnose it
yourself – report to the hospital OB Triage. A quick exam will help to determine
whether the “bag of water” is intact or broken
